For those of you who don’t know me, here are a few words about who I am and what I do.

Born: 1978, Munich.

Instruments: Diatonic and chromatic harmonica, double bass and piano.

Musical influences: Little Walter, Howard Levy, Abida Parveen, Bakija Bakic, Saban Bajramovic, Abdel Ghadir Salim, Yuseef Lateef, Yehudi Menuhin.

I’m a musician, harmonica player and founder of the Harmonica School Berlin. Since early childhood I’ve been surrounded by music and my father and uncle loved the blues. Our family of four lived in a three-room apartment and it was filled with music – everything from Balkan and Heavy Metal to Ravi Shankar, usually all at the same time. Sometimes I would manage to find a quiet corner where I could listen to my own music on my Sony Walkman, but still I was greatly influenced by the colourful musical life around me. Becoming a professional musician was a natural consequence of my environment. I followed my interest to discover music in all of its many facets and searched for my own way to express myself.

In the beginning the harmonica was challenging in the many specific ways that are typical of the instrument. Even today I’m still fascinated by its unique sound and range of expression. I look forward to practicing and learning more every day.

It is with deep gratitude that I now look back on 25 years of playing the harmonica. On the way it has given me insights, numerous opportunities to travel and many lasting friendships.

My sincere wish is to pass these experiences on – and that is what the Harmonica School Berlin is all about. For me learning, teaching and actively playing music go hand in hand, and I look forward to the opportunity to do this.
